Quoting Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6 states, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Yesterday, my teacher (Dr. Gaston) said: Knowing the problem is half of the solution. Wow - how true that is, especially when it comes to salvation.
Many people believe they are "good enough" to go to heaven. From searching the scriptures, I see quite the opposite. To the best of my understanding, I interpret scripture to say, "The 'good' people are the ones who go to hell, and only those who see themselves as 'bad' will enter heaven."
There is none truly good "except God alone," (Mark 10:18) so any human claiming to be 'good' is deceived and full of pride. Although he/she may admit to being a 'sinner', that person does not recognize the sinfulness of his/her sin, and therefore can only have worldly sorrow, which results in death, and not godly sorrow, which produces a genuine repentance leading to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10).
The Bible says that bad people go to heaven, but not all bad people go to heaven. Recognizing the sinfulness of your sin in light of God's absolute holiness is a MUST for salvation, but recognition is not enough. One must...
* RECOGNIZE, then...
* REPENT - turn away from sin and towards God, and...
* RELY on God - trust..not just believe...in the saving work of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary.
When witnessing to a lost person, use the Law (the 10 commandments), as Jesus did, to make sure he/she understands the sinfulness of their sin before you present the Cross to them, because "the message of the cross if foolishness to those who are perishing" (1 Corinthians 1:18). For you, make sure you have not been tricked into thinking you are a "good person" who just needs (or needed) to "rededicate" or "straighten up" or follow some little pattern for salvation. Remember: Only bad people who repent will go to heaven; hell is full of "good" people...don't be one of them.

Help NEEDED!
Miles and Lisa Hannan will be hosting a marriage retreat on Saturday Novemember 3. They will need people to set up and tear down. Miles asked me to ask ya'll if you could help out. They will need about 5-6 people. As of now, I think I'm the only person signed up to help, so I need AT LEAST 4 more people to say, "Sure Clay, I will help."
Work will include moving hay bales, setting up stuff, and more. (Miles particularly requested guys to help...so guys, SPEAK UP!)
And for added incentive...a FREE, incredible dinner will be provided! Let me (Clay) know ASAP if you can help.

Idea
Clay, I like this idea of having the blog. I really hope students will take advantage of it. Is there a way to put the church logo on it? Who is going to post announcements of upcoming events, etc?

Update about Blog Permissions...
I was trying to find out if all authors could modify blog properties and this is what I found:
"Administrators can . . . modify blog properties. Non-admins can only post to the blog."
In other words, anyone can join and post to the blog - YAY! - so join today! I will send out an invitation when I get a chance. I will make Mr. Lee, Mrs. Kelly, and Mrs. Patty an administrator so they can update the news, prayer requests, and praises.
I also found a fast and easy way for everyone to receive blog updates. All you have to do is to remain on the Northside College Ministry google group (just don't remove yourself from the group). It's that easy!
Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
God's will for MY life?
This is a great video clip by Louie Giglio that I feel goes perfectly with the topic we discussed on "Knowing God's Will for My Life" for roundtable. Check it out. It's 7 minutes that you will be glad you invested!

Northside Blog
So, whattaya think of the new blog for the college ministry? I think this will be a great way to post news, announcements, prayer requests, and praises, as well as other stuff like pictures, videos, notes, directions (to houses for example), and a lot more.
One of the best thing about the blog is that you can leave comments, ask questions, and give answers. Anyone will be able to posts comments, but only blog members will be able to post blogs. To become a member, you must sign up for blogger, request to join the blog, then I will accept your request. The only thing I ask is that you only post blogs and comments - please don't change anything on the blog itself.
Another great thing about the blog is that you can access information at anytime from the web. I personally think it's a good idea, but what do you think...
stash it or trash it? ...and why?
